Comparison
CovaSyn vs AiChemy: Which Chemistry MCP Stack Fits Your Pharma R&D?
If your med-chem or analytics team is to work with MCP tools, two options stand out: AiChemy (Databricks, open source) and CovaSyn (pharma-specific, hosted in Germany). Both address the same layer, but the design choices differ fundamentally.
TL;DR
Choose AiChemy if your stack already runs on Databricks, you have no regulatory requirements, and you bring engineering capacity for hosting and validation. Choose CovaSyn if you operate in a regulated pharma environment, need deterministic results and an audit trail for your validation, care about data held in Germany, and prefer a ready-to-use commercial solution with clear billing.

Which fits when
When AiChemy Makes Sense
AiChemy is the right choice when your organisation is already deeply invested in the Databricks ecosystem, your chemistry workloads run as notebooks in the Lakehouse, and you have engineering resources to manage hosting, updates, tool configuration and validation yourself. AiChemy is open source, so there is no licence cost, but you pay for Databricks compute and invest internal hours.
For academic research, early-discovery projects without regulatory pressure, or applications without fixed data-location requirements, AiChemy is a solid generalist.
When CovaSyn Makes Sense
CovaSyn is the right choice in regulated pharma and CDMO environments where you need to demonstrate that your analytical results are reproducible and auditable. If your QA group wants a GAMP risk assessment, if your submission requires an ICH M7 mutagenicity assessment, or your stability programme needs shelf-life estimates following ICH Q1A and Q1E, you either build those layers on AiChemy yourself or use them at CovaSyn directly.
Additionally: CovaSyn runs on Hetzner hardware in Nuremberg. For many pharma companies in the EU, data location is a central purchasing criterion. AiChemy on Databricks inherits the data location of your cloud provider; for tenants outside the EU this needs checking.
Cost Comparison
AiChemy is open source, the software costs nothing. But you pay for Databricks compute, for engineering time (setup, ongoing updates) and, where regulation requires it, for validation.
A CovaSyn single seat costs EUR 0, 250 or 750 per user and month, net and cancellable monthly, including compute, updates and support. From 5 users there is the team licence with a shared allowance, invoice, DPA and SSO; we discuss its price in the intro call. From January 2027 CovaSyn also runs on your own servers.
- Switching Between Stacks
- If you work with AiChemy today and want to move to CovaSyn, we work out the effort and the steps for your case together in the initial call.
- Bottom Line
- AiChemy and CovaSyn solve different problems. AiChemy addresses Databricks-centric data teams with engineering capacity. CovaSyn addresses regulated pharma R&D with requirements for traceability, clear billing and data held in Germany.
